How Young is Too Young for Breast Augmentation?
To the shock of some people breast enlargement surgery is becoming an all too common graduation and sweet 16 birthday gift request from teens all over the country. This makes many pose the question how young is too young for breast augmentation surgery? It is common at one point or another for young girls to feel self-conscious about their bodies as they compare them to their peers around them but the number of girls who are actually going through with surgery to alter their breasts is outrageous.

It is a known fact that girl’s breasts do not stop growing until after the age of 21, but still girls who are 18 years old and in even more drastic cases only 16 years old are being allowed to get breast enlargement surgery. What is even more outstanding is that the young girl’s parents are giving them the permission to do it and even worse doctors are doing the surgeries without fully explaining the immediate and future risks to these young patients. It‘s said that a reputable surgeon will not perform a breast enlargement procedure on a patient under the age of 18. That being said it should be noted that as of now there are no legal restrictions on the procedure so while surgeons are not breaking the law there is a moral question that could be asked.
Teens who are more worried about their self-image do not think about the long-term repercussions and financial responsibilities that come with getting
breast enlargements. Medically the surgery has a very high complication rate and requires additional procedures. Teens also tend to forget that breast implants do not last forever and that they will need to be replaced several times throughout their lives. In addition teens who have their breast implants removed notice that their natural breasts look saggy and more stretched out. This is possibly due to the breasts natural growth cycle being interrupted.
